Mental Health Care

Mental health is just as important as physical health, especially in the demanding, unpredictable world of theatre. The Denver Actors Fund offers assistance to help Colorado theatre artists access affordable mental health care. Through our partnership with Maria Droste Counseling Center, eligible applicants can receive sliding-scale therapy services with licensed professionals. This program is available to Colorado-based theatre artists who are experiencing financial hardship and in need of mental health support.

Maria Droste Counseling Center is a cohort of more than 60 independent therapists from a wide range of disciplines who provide access to mental health care for the underserved, while also serving as a training institute for newly licensed psychotherapists.

What’s Covered

  • One-on-one therapy sessions
  • Telehealth or in-person options
  • Sliding-scale payments based on income
  • Short-term and ongoing support options

How It Works

  • Submit a confidential application through the Denver Actors Fund.
  • If approved, we will help coordinate access to mental health services through Maria Droste Counseling Center.
  • Sessions are provided at a significantly reduced cost, with DAF covering a portion of the expense.

Please note: Colorado theatre artists seeking mental health support through this program must apply directly through The Denver Actors Fund. Please do not contact individual therapists or providers directly.

If you believe you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please seek immediate care.  If appropriate, you may choose to call 911 (emergency/life threatening scenarios) and/or 988 (Colorado Mental and Behavioral Health). There may be other options available to you – this list is not exclusive.  The Denver Actors Fund’s inclusion of these numbers is for informational purposes only and does not constitute an endorsement of any particular service nor a medical/mental health evaluation or recommendation by The Denver Actors Funds.

While we encourage applicants to consider the providers who have partnered with us to offer discounted or donated services, use of a DAF-affiliated therapist is not required. However, artists who choose to work with a different licensed provider must still apply through DAF and may be considered for financial assistance on a case-by-case basis, subject to available funding and review.

DAF coverage for mental health support is subject to all other applicable eligibility requirements.
