Volunteer Guidelines & Expectations

Theatre is built on community. It takes collaboration, care, and countless acts of generosity to bring a story to life. At Denver Actors Fund, we believe that same spirit should extend to the people who make theatre happen.

Our mission is to provide immediate assistance to Colorado theatre artists facing medical need. And just like a production relies on every member of the crew, and production team. Our work relies on people like you.

By joining the DAF volunteer community, you are stepping into a role that truly matters. Whether you’re delivering meals, offering a ride, lending a skill, or helping at an event, you are part of the community that keeps our mission alive.

Below, you’ll find an overview of expectations and guidelines that help us work together with care and clarity. We’re grateful for your time and talents, and we ask that all volunteers:

  • Support our mission by participating in tasks outlined in our Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities
  • Communicate openly and respectfully with staff and fellow volunteers
  • Adhere to our values and code of conduct
  • Sign a volunteer agreement acknowledging expectations, responsibilities, and the understanding that all roles are unpaid
Drug & Alcohol Policy

While representing the DAF—whether at an event or supporting an aid recipient—we ask that volunteers refrain from using, possessing, or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Accessibility

We are committed to making volunteer opportunities inclusive and adaptable to a wide range of needs. If you require specific accommodations to participate fully, we welcome the opportunity to support you.

Privacy & Discretion

Many DAF volunteers work directly or indirectly with individuals receiving aid. We ask that you treat all personal information with the utmost care and do not share details about recipients without their express permission.

Safety & Risk Management

Because DAF volunteers often serve in varied environments not directly managed by our organization, we do not offer formal safety training. If a situation ever feels unsafe or unclear, we encourage you to pause and reach out to a DAF team member.

Zero Tolerance for Violence or Harassment

We are dedicated to maintaining a respectful, supportive space for everyone in our community. We do not tolerate violence, harassment, threats, intimidation, or discriminatory behavior of any kind. Any such incidents will be taken seriously and may result in immediate dismissal from volunteer service, with further action taken as needed.

Dress Code

Most volunteer roles do not require specific attire, but certain events—such as fundraisers or performances—may call for particular dress. If so, we’ll provide guidance in advance.

Volunteer Dismissal Policy

We reserve the right to end a volunteer’s service if expectations are not met or if actions compromise the safety, values, or integrity of the organization. Whenever possible, concerns will be addressed through conversation and clear communication before any next steps are taken.

Denver Actors Fund: Volunteer Code of Conduct

As a DAF volunteer, you’re part of a caring network supporting Colorado theatre artists in crisis. To ensure a safe, respectful, and effective environment, we ask all volunteers to commit to the following:

1. Represent the DAF with Care

Act in a way that reflects our values—compassion, community, respect, and accountability. You are a representative of our organization in every interaction.  Use social media responsibly and respectfully: never share recipient information without permission, avoid speaking on behalf of DAF without approval, and represent our values online

2. Respect Privacy

Keep all personal information about aid recipients confidential. Do not share names, stories, or medical details without permission.

3. Communicate Clearly

Respond to DAF staff promptly, be honest about your availability, and ask questions when you need support or clarification.

4. Be Kind

Treat all individuals with dignity and respect, regardless of background or identity. Harassment or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.

5. Follow Safety and Conduct Guidelines

Do not use drugs or alcohol while volunteering. Avoid giving medical, legal, or mental health advice unless you’re specifically qualified and asked to do so. Let us know if something feels unsafe.
