Financial-aid recipient: Kevin Lowry is an actor, improviser, educator and photographer whose credits include “12 Angry Men” for the Cherry Creek Theatre, “Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo” for The Edge Theatre, “The 39 Steps” for the Breckenridge Backstage Theatre and “Juliet and Romeo” for the Betsy Stage. Other credits include the Arvada Center, Miners Alley Playhouse, Aurora Fox, No Holds Bard and the improv-comedy group Hot Nap. He last performed in a local theatre production in 2017, when he appeared in “Enchanted April” for the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. He later moved to NYC but moved back to Colorado during the pandemic. When local actor Shelly Bordas was receiving treatment for cancer, Lowry hosted a fundraiser on her behalf at what is now called Rise Comedy.
His initial medical story: In 2016, Kevin’s permanent retainer broke after 22 years, leaving him with a sharp metal wire poking directly into his mouth. He had to go to an emergency dentist to have the rest of the retainer removed, and have a new retainer and night guard made. He was told the cost of the repair and replacement was not covered under his insurance. After his dentist convinced him of the overall health benefits, Kevin had no choice but to put the $444.06 expense on a credit card.
How we helped: The Denver Actors Fund reimbursed Kevin for his expense of $444.06.
The next chapter: In January 2021, Kevin had an emergency appendectomy, accruing several out-of-pocket medical bills that totaled $1,417.61. That brings our overall support for Kevin through the years to $1,861.67.

But within 24 hours, I got a return call assuring me this was indeed why Denver Actors Fund exists. ‘Miscast’ is the major annual fundraiser for The Denver Actors Fund. ONGOING: “Quarantine Week by Weak” is a new photographic coffee-table book by Susannah McLeod and her wife, Chloe McLeod, who chronicled their home life during the COVID19 shutdown with a lighthearteded photo series documenting their lives during quarantine. They produced more than 35 sets of humorous photos comparing the beginning of quarantine to later in the “stay-at-home” period. Susannah pulled out her camera and we started to play,” said Chloe McLeod. As popularity for the series grew on Instagram and after a feature in Westword, the couple started exploring options to publish the series as a book to benefit The Denver Actors Fund.
