‘This means more to me than you could possibly know’

Aid recipient: Actor Regina Fernandez is a company member for the Arvada Center’s 2019 black-box season, meaning she is currently appearing in “The Diary of Anne Frank,” “The Moors” and “Sin Street Social Club” – all at the same time. In 2017, she appeared in the DCPA Theatre Company’s “The Secret Garden.” Other Colorado credits include playing Charmian in Colorado Springs TheatreWorks’ “Antony and Cleopatra,” Trix in the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center’s “The Drowsy Chaperone,” Marcy Park in Creede Repertory Theatre’s “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and Christmas Eve in Theatre Aspen’s “Avenue Q.” She is originally from Boca Raton, Fla., and earned her BFA in Musical Theatre from the University of Central Florida Conservatory Program.

Regina Fernandez QuoteHer medical story: Regina was diagnosed with Psoriasis (a chronic and painful skin condition caused by an overactive immune system), as well as Psoriatic Arthritis (a chronic form of arthritis that affects joints) back in 2010. Her medications run her $1,220 a month, which she must pay out of pocket until she reaches her insurance plan’s high annual deductible. Regina asked the DAF for help in covering one month of the cost for her medications.

How we have helped: To give Regina a little bit of financial breathing room as she works toward meeting her annual deductible, The Denver Actors Fund board has unanimously voted to reimburse Regina for TWO months of the cost of her prescriptions, or $2,440.

How you can help us help Regina more: If you would like to direct a specific donation to help Regina, simply mail checks in any amount made out to Denver Actors Fund (with Regina Fernandez’s name written in the topic field), to P.O. Box 11182, Denver, CO 80212. Or use this donation link. If you use the online option, be sure to designate that your donation is a targeted donation for Regina Fernandez. (She will receive 100 percent of your donation.) Otherwise, your donation will be applied to the replenishment of the Denver Actors Fund’s general fund.

A message from Regina: “Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis are chronic autoimmune disorders that make everyday living really tricky for me. More than 8 million Americans struggle with this disease and about 30 percent of us develop Psoriatic Arthritis. I’ve been lucky enough to find a way to help keep mine under control. The Denver Actors Fund is giving me the chance to get the care I need so I can continue to perform and go about even simple everyday tasks that would not be possible without my medications. I’m beyond grateful that The Denver Actors Fund exists to help close the gap when it comes to access to health care. There are truly not enough words to express how thankful I am to all of the sponsors and friends looking out for people like me, including my “Anne Frank” castmate Darrow Klein, who helped raised money for the DAF this weekend. This means more to me than you could possibly know.”

The Denver Actors Fund has now made more than $333,000 available to Colorado artists in medical need.

How you can help us help us replenish: If you would like to help us replenish by donating to the Denver Actors Fund, simply mail checks in any amount made out to Denver Actors Fund to P.O. Box 11182, Denver, CO 80212. Or use this donation link, with our humble thanks.
