After E.R. scare, actor Jordan Manchego finds light at end of financial tunnel from Denver Actors Fund
Who we helped: Longtime Denver actor Jordan Manchego most recently appeared in “Urinetown, the Musical” for the Platte Valley Players as Tiny Tom, Dr. Billeaux and others. Jordan has many local credits at (among others) the Aurora Fox, Performance Now, Vintage Theatre and Equinox Theatre, appearing in “Cry-Baby The Musical” at the Bug Theatre. He is a graduate of Prairie View High School in Henderson and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
His medical story: Jordan recently had a scare requiring an ambulance trip to Denver Health and, after he was given some antihistamine and then essentially streeted, he was still left with a huge post-insurance bill of $3,847.
How we have helped: After an unsuccessful attempt to help barter Jordan’s bill down, the Denver Actors Fund board agreed to pay the $3,847 in full. Back in 2020, we also helped Jordan through a major dental crisis that involved wisdom teeth, a cracked molar and an exposed nerve. Our partnering dentist, Brian Kelly DDS, provided an estimated $1,314 in emergency dental assistance as his own in-kind donation to the DAF. The total overall support the DAF now has provided to Jordan comes to $5,161.
A message from Jordan: “When you encounter a large bill for something like going to the E.R., you can’t help but feel hopeless. When the DAF takes that burden off your shoulders without any hesitation, your faith in humanity is restored. As for my dental crisis, I had been in the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. Just when I thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel, within days of making my application to The Denver Actors Fund, Dr. Kelly got me into the chair and out of my agony. Dr. Kelly, his staff and The Denver Actors Fund are literal gifts from God. A huge thank-you to the entire DAF team as well as everyone who made this possible through their generous donations. Never think you are so proud that you can’t ask for help! I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”
