JOHN ASHTON

Hey, John Ashton: Give us a smile!

Who we helped: John Ashton has worn almost every creative hat imaginable in the Colorado theater community. He been a writer, actor, director and stagehand for about half a century. For several years, he owned and ran the Avenue Theater. He has authored at least 10 plays, ranging from his long-running  hit comedy “Murder Most Fowl” to his more recent semi-autobiographical drama “Before You Go,” which premiered at Miners Alley Playhouse in 2021. He is a proud recipient of the Colorado Theater Guild’s Lifetime Achievement award. And, as a journalist, he is believed to be the only scribe to have been hired to work full-time at The Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News and Westword.

Her medical story: John had some dental issues that let’s just say involved some surgery and a bridge.

How we helped: The Denver Actors covered his personal obligation of $4,089.

‘THE DENVER ACTORS FUND JUST SAVED ME FROM GOING DEEP INTO DEBT OVER MAJOR DENTAL BILLS’ – JOHN ASHTON

A message from John: “The Denver Actors Fund just saved me from going deep into debt over major dental bills. I’ve now joined the hundreds of other theater artists who’ve received desperately needed funding from this amazing organization.”

Hey! If you have dental needs, READ THIS: Since 2017, the Denver Actors Fund has worked with partnering dentist Dr. Brian Kelly to provide members of the Colorado theater community with direct, reduced-price emergency dental services. In 10 years, Dr. Kelly has provided $200,000 worth of dental work to Colorado theater artists as his in-kind donation to the DAF. But here’s the thing: He can only help you (and us) if you come to us before you reach out to an out-of-network dentist. So if you find yourself in need, fill out an application and we;ll hook you up with Dr. Kelly. At least you will have that other option. And every penny Dr. Kellly donates is a penny we don’t have to pay to an out-of-network dentist. Go to denveractorsfund.org/dental-assistance for more information.

How you can help us help us help more Colorado theater artists: If you would like to make a donation to help The Denver Actors Fund replenish, simply mail checks in any amount made out to Denver Actors Fund to P.O. Box 11182, Denver, CO 80211. Or use this donation link, with our humble thanks.
